Since I was a little tot, I’ve associated snow with hot cocoa — peppermint, white chocolate, caramel, it didn’t matter, I loved them all. Last month, I found a version that trumps them all: amaretto cocoa. This recipe came to me from Scott, who heard it from some of our mutual theater friends.
Now, it of course goes without saying that this is a drink only for my adult followers. For those of you who aren’t that familiar with amaretto, it’s an almond-flavored liquor that has fruity taste notes. Paired with hot chocolate it tastes… amazing.
Snow days are best spent with loved ones, so when Scott and his family invited me over to weather out this snowstorm with them, I jumped at the chance. I lucked out – the roads hadn’t yet frozen over so this former Washingtonian went to Starbucks and picked up some drinks for the family. Since I jump at every chance to play games (I’m basically the old-man version of a party animal), I also brought over some games. Scott snapped this photo of me as I was approaching full of excitement of what the day will bring. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Today marked the second snow day of the week, but unlike when I last posted, this is a bonafide snow day. It’s also freezing outside — and what better to warm up with than with hot cocoa? (Answer: this version of hot cocoa!)
Mmm… It’s soul-warming.
